4:05 PM Nick Jonas may join Mariah Carey as a Judge on American Idol
Now that Jennifer Lopez is out and Mariah Carey is in on American Idol, it's time to focus on the other two judges' spots. According to Us Weekly musicians Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams are in talks to fill the remaining empty seats. Nick, the youngest of the Jonas Brothers, and Pharrell, the N.E.R.D.
rapper, are the two current frontrunners to take over the vacancy left
by Steven Tayler and the one rumored to soon be available by Randy Jackson. "Nick is pretty close to signing to be the Idoljudge," one insider says of the 19-year-old stage-and-screen performer. "They flew him in to L.A. last week for final meetings." Jonas recently ended a four-month engagement as Dan Raddcliffe's replacement on Broadway's How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and according to a source, "[American Idol producers] think he can help bring that younger demo to the show." Williams, 39, would add some prestige. He's not only a Grammy-winning performer but also a producer (for A-list acts such as Gwen Steffani, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Idol alum Adam Lambert) as well as a composer (Despicable Me and the last Academy Awards ceremony). "Everything is looking good, but they're still working out details," an insider tells Us about Williams' negotiations. Although the judges have yet to be locked down, one thing's for sure, host Ryan Seacrest, 37, is scheduled to return for season 12, which premieres this winter.
